Weather
What's the Weather Really Like?
From April to September (and occasionally at other times, the year) air conditioning is used
almost everywhere, especially in the car! Spring thunderstorm season begins early in March & continues
through June. A secondary storm season arrives in September. Hurricane Season along the Gulf coast is July
through October. Humidity is low in west Texas, so drinking lots of water is essential.
Texas dress is generally casual. Dallas is the most cosmopolitan (Houston second) of Texas cities and
dress in Dallas & Houston is less casual than other Texas cities. Jeans are appropriate for most activities,
with the exception of a few "coat required" clubs & restaurants.
Cold weather generally arrives with Halloween & leaves by late February. Sweaters & jackets are often needed
at night because of the low humidity. Dry air retains less heat than moist air.
