London Bridge spanned the Thames from the 1830s until 1968 where it survived terrorist attacks and German bombs, but it was sinking into the river's clay bottom. In 1968, the city of London sold its sinking bridge for $2.6 million to Lake Havasu City, AZ, to connect the city to an island in the lake. It took more than $7 million and three years to to dismantle, pack, ship, and reconstruct the bridge in Lake Havasu City where it was dedicated on October 10, 1971.
