Monteregie: a region with future
![]() The region is a mix of urban and rural life, beginning from the Montreal downtown and ending on the Canadian-American border. It's the second most populated region in Quebec with more than 1,3 million living on 11,000 sq.km. Almost the half of this population lives in the Montreal suburbs south of the Saint-Laurent River. The economic development is maintained by the strong growth of many food processing and industrial companies (more than 50 industrial parks), as well as the tourism attractions and the transport. For the foreign investors, the region offers an easy access to the big industrial and urban centers of the American North-East (less than 6 hours of driving to New York City; less than 5 hours to Boston). More than 75 industrial companies work in the high-technology sectors - aerospace, IT, pharmacy, petrochemical and electronic industries. The real estate market in Monteregie is well developed and growing. It continues to offer good opportunities for developers, builders and final clients. The average price of a house is less than $70,000 US (compared to $110,000 US for the island of Montreal), while the monthly rent of 2BR apartment is less than $350 US. During the last 12 months the construction activity in the region, helped by the low interests and the good economic figures, has risen by more than 50%. The Metropolitan Transport Agency of Montreal is planning additional commuter train lines between the downtown and some sectors of Monteregie to satisfy the growing number of customers.
