Amazon Buys OurHouse.com
Evanston, IL-based OurHouse.com, one the premier home improvement sites on the web, has announced that it sold some of its assets to Amazon.com, the giant online retailer that specializes in books, music and video sales. With a thanks for the support over the years to their customers, OurHouse now recommends that they shop the Amazon site for tools and hardware, kitchen and housewares products and outdoor living essentials
The sale of the e-commerce home improvement site in November included intellectual properties, the name and their web address. OurHouse's chief marketing officer told the National Home Center News that talks had begun during the summer. "I think it was an opportunity. We felt that Amazon would benefit from the assets and [it was] a logical purchaser," Briggs stated.
OurHouse.com was ranked by the Media Metrix Online Shopping Index as one of the top ten retail sites in December of 2000. Earlier this year OurHouse.com was featured on the Today Show as their Mr. Fix-It, Lou Manfredini joined with builder David Weekley Homes to build a home in Tampa, Florida in a 12 week series. The proceeds from the auction of the home ($370,000.00) went to the Habitat For Humanity International organization.
